Ben Lomond – Loch Lomond and The Trossachs

Ben Lomond was my first Munro, I enjoyed it that much I actually done it a second time! Well that and the first time it was bucketing down and I seen hee-haw. Since I’ve taken a weekend off from climbing hills, I thought I’d write about this beauty.

Ben Lomond

Category – Munro

Height – 974 metres (3,196 ft)

Location – Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park

Difficulty – Moderate

Timing – 4 – 5 hours

Rating – 9.5/10

Ben Lomond can be found on the Eastern side of Loch Lomond, in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. To reach the car park, head towards Balmaha at Loch Lomond and follow the road for about 40 minutes. You’ll pass the Rowardennan Hotel which does a lovely pint and meal – keep that in mind for the end of your hike. Anyway, as usual, there’s a parking fee of about £3 so remember your change!

At the car park, head straight through the visitor centre/ toilets and you’ll see the trail. From there, its about an 30-40 minutes of forestry until you come out onto the mountain side. Even from the lower slopes, you get some beautiful views of Loch Lomond and the surrounding mountains. The incline isn’t too bad as you gradually make your way up to the summit.

It usually is quite a popular mountain, especially at the weekends so if you go by yourself, you’ll meet people along the way. The panoramic view of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park is unparalleled to the summit of Ben Lomond, absolutely spectacular.

My Thoughts

I would definitely recommend this Munro, whether it be your first, last or just something to do at the weekend. The views are second-to-none (if you get a clear day) and it makes a cracking day out. Ben Lomond definitely makes it in to my top 3 mountains, along with The Cobbler and Buachaille Etive Mor.

Thanks for reading,

Alzo
