On Sunday, despite the torrential rain, Davie and I made an attempt to climb Ben More. Definitely not the nicest of days to do it. I’ll not lie and tell you that we reached the summit, we did not. We barely made it a third of the way up. Regardless, it got us out and about for the day and we seen quite a few picturesque waterfalls. Ultimately though, it was a waterfall that stopped us in our tracks.

There is a car park with a big Ben More sign on the A85 between Loch Earn and Crainlarich. After our attempt, I found out that the best place to park is actually at the Benmore Farm, a little bit further along the road towards Crainlarich. I’ll be keeping that in mind for next time!
The Route We Took
From the sign posted Ben More car park, we followed a trail that stated ‘open hill track’ which was over grown and not the easiest of trails to follow. Regardless, we followed it. We ended up in some forestry and seen quite a few picturesque waterfalls. Probably due to the heavy downpour that we faced. After about 2 hours of wandering up this trail, we came to a river and it looked like the path went straight through it on the other side. Due to the heavy rainfall, and the powerful flow of the river, it would have been stupid to try cross it. Instead of continuing the trail, we tried to follow the river a little further up to cross but to no avail. We did come across a fallen tree over the river but it was nowhere near stable enough and was pretty slippy, there was no point in risking it. So with no way of following the trail, we decided to turn back and call it a day and to return on another, nicer day to conquer Ben More.
It was disappointing not to climb to the top but with the weather and lack of trail, I dare say it was a smart move to turn back. I’ll bag this one another day!
Unfortunately, I don’t have much more to say on Ben More. When I actually reach the summit and know the right route to take, I’ll be able to write a better post on it! For the mean time though, I thought I would keep you updated on what I’ve been up to!
