New Year Hike Up Ben A’an

Happy New Year everyone! All the best for 2022. It’s a new year. A new start. Things can only get better after the last couple of years! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas period and a very happy New Year. I finally managed to upgrade my camera (to a Nikon D780), such a massive improvement! Here’s hoping I’ll get more than a few cracking photos to share with you.

Christmas & Hogmany

I spent Christmas relatively quietly, just watched movies and took a drive to Midhope Castle (Lallybroch in Outlander) and the Forth Bridges to play with my camera. Then I spent Boxing Day with Suzanne and her family. I done a tasting session at the Deanston Distillery that Suzanne graciously got for me, her dad and brother. Delightful whisky! I spent Hogmany watching the fireworks at the Wallace Monument. A bit of a different experience, for the first time in about 15 years, I was sober going into a New Year! What a record. The fireworks were fantastic and the light show (if you can call it that) on the Monument, was equally impressive. I caught some decent photos of the fireworks, I’ll put them in below!

Ben A’an

Anyway, having woke up fresh on New Years Day, I thought I’d start off my year as I mean to go with a New Year hike up Ben A’an. It’s not my first time doing it, it’s became an annual thing to kind of gauge how my fitness is. If you want to read my previous blog on it; Ben A’an. I must admit, after lazing about for near on 2 months, my legs were sore and my time for getting up wasn’t any better than last year (both were about 50-55 minutes) but at least I wasn’t any worse! It was surprisingly busy as well, the summit was like a conveyor belt of people wanting their photo. I quickly took the opportunity to get mine then went back down. It’s only about 2 hours up and down, including the stop at the summit, so it’s a relatively short day out but the views are remarkable. I’ll let you see that for yourself.

Well that’s all for this post. I’m hoping to be posting a bit more frequently this year, and I know I say it every time, but this year I’m aiming to take my photography to another level and start selling more photos! (if you’re interested, see: Alan Kerr Photography) There’s a wee YouTube video of the hike as well if you want to check that out… Starting The Year Off Right… A Hike Up Ben A’an. And as always, photos are below if you want to check them out!

Thanks for reading,

Alan
