Rivers & Lochs
Rivers & lochs add to the majestic beauty of Scotland. A ‘loch’ is a Scottish lake, they’re usually landlocked but there are sea lochs too. The rivers flow down from the mountains into many of the lochs and sometimes the sea. Loch Morar is the deepest loch, Loch Lomond is the largest by surface area and the famous Loch Ness is the largest by volume. With the amount of rain that Scotland gets, it comes as no surprise the number of rivers that flow through the country. The River Tay is the longest river in Scotland and 7th in the UK.
