When you’re travelling, things won’t always go to plan. For example, I had the worst imaginable start in Melbourne. It’s just part of life. You just need to alter your plans to make it work in your favour.
Suzanne and I wanted to go North to Port Douglas then back down to see Atherton Tablelands. However, after looking at money, we found that we wouldn’t be able to afford the petrol & activities. So, instead, we just started driving south. It made us 3 days ahead of plan but we stretched it out and stopped more frequently on the road. It worked out well for us, we got to see some beautiful waterfalls and got used to camper-van life. We’ve came to terms that we won’t be able to do Moreton Island ($60-$90) AND Stradbroke Island ($30) as well. We’ll only do one but we’ll alter our plans accordingly when that time comes!
What To Do When Things Go Awry
Don’t panic for starters. Panicking about something that’s out of your control is a waste of time and won’t help you at all. Just remain calm and think about it. There’s always going to be a) a solution or b) an alternative. Once you’ve calmed down, just think of ways to improvise or to get around it. Take what happened to Suzanne and I for example. We had plans of going North first then going back South but realised money was the issue. Altered our plans and now we’re content. Well until we start running out of money as we approach Melbourne! That’ll be a whole other story. We’ll figure that out somehow as well!
Just remember that travelling life isn’t going to be easy and there are going to be A LOT of obstacles in your way. Find a way to over-come them and don’t stress. Life is too short. Make the most of what you have!
Have you ever had to change your plans for an unforeseen circumstance? What did you do and how did you get passed it?
