After weeks of worrying and stressing about our road-trip, we finally paid off our activities package last week and got our deposit down on a camper van. We had been emailing back and forth with nearly every travel agent we could find until we got a price within our budget.
Finding The Perfect Deal
When you’re looking to book anything in Australia, don’t jump at the first price you’re given, even it seems amazing. Chances are, you’re going to be able to get it cheaper. Whether it be from price beat guarantees or another travel agents. Make sure you do research and work out how much it would be to book it individually. At first, companies were quoting us over $2000 for our camper van and a further $2000-$2500pp for our activities package which was completely out-with our price range.
Luckily, with some price beat guarantees and online research looking at individual prices and companies, we managed to get the activity package down to $1377. We then asked to add on our camper as part of the package where we were given lower prices but still expensive at around $1800. We went through the research again and found cheaper options and with the price beat guarantee, it got reduced to $1315. So instead of the original $6000-$6500 for the full package, we got the price down to $4069. Not bad at all, only $2035 each. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still expensive but for what we got, it’s definitely an amazing price.
The Camper Van
The camper van that was included in our package is called an ‘El Cheapo Sleeper’ from Jucy Rentals. We could have got insurance for an extra $30 per day but decided to opt for the $3000 bond instead. We pick it up on the 21st January and have until the 25th February to get to Melbourne. It sounds like a reasonable amount of time but our itinerary is jam-packed.
The activities package that we got was absolutely brilliant. This is what we got included;
- Great Barrier Reef Day Tour with 1 Introductory Dive
- Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation Day Tour
- Magnetic Island Return Ferry
- 2 Days 1 Night Whitsundays Tour
- Surf Lesson & Tour At 1770
- 2 Days 1 Night Fraser Island Tour
- Kayaking At Noosa Everglades
- Australia Zoo Tickets
- Dolphin Kayaking At Byron Bay
All in all, I would say that is definitely worth $1377. Of course there are a few other day trips and activities that we plan on doing like a sky dive, Atherton Tablelands and Moreton & Stradbroke Island but we’ll just find the cheapest option for them along the way.
So now that we have booked our road-trip & activities, I can’t wait to start moving again. As much as I have enjoyed living in Hervey Bay, it’s time to explore and do a bit of travelling. Over the course of the travels, I’m hoping to vlog about our experience and post reviews and tips for the activities on here. I’ve even had a bit of practice at vlogging over the past couple of weeks. You can check out my YouTube channel by clicking this link; Alzos Adventures.
